Do you feel like you have a choice about how you grow older?
Sometimes we don't get a say about what life throws at us, and I have several close friends that I feel have been dealt some pretty ordinary cards when it comes to their health.
These things are completely out of their control and I find it mind blowing to see them just get on with life without complaining!!
They always seem grateful for the smallest of things which I think contributes to their positive mindset. I am always learning so much from them and will be forever grateful to have them all in my life.
Then I can’t help but think about the increasing number of chronic conditions / diseases across the population of our world that are a direct result of modifiable lifestyle choices and wonder how this is ever going change.
With the 13th anniversary of my mum's death coming up soon I sometimes wonder would she still be here if she did a few things differently.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I am not that ignorant to think it is always easy to make changes and each person's situation/life is unique to them.
It's also much easier to stand on the sideline and call out the shots than it is to be the one in the driver's seat trying to figure out how you can change lanes!!
Over many years I have experienced and observed that there are manly small things that you can do in your day to day life that will influence your health and with that how well you age, that is if you have the privilege to.
These things don't have to be a chore or be boring, or take up too much of your time .. although why we don't want to spend time investing in ourselves is a mystery to me!!
Below are a few little things that you may like to tweak if need be..
Spend time with positive people
Have stress management strategies in place
Strive for good sleeping habits
Adequate hydration and nutrition
Regular movement - 5 mins can make a world of difference !
Awareness of your breathing pattern - you might wonder what it is I mean because you breathe every day, but how you breathe can impact your health a lot! (A workshop in itself!)
All these things deserve a lot more time, but for now I am leaving it here for some food for thought.
