A chance to remind everyone about heart disease in women

I always feel like the anniversary of mum’s passing is a good time to remind us all that the signs and symptoms of a woman having a “heart attack” can be very different to the classic signs we may know.

Without recognising potential signs/symptoms, medical help is often delayed which can result in a poor outcome.

The classic signs that we know..

  • Feeling of heaviness, pressure or pain in chest

  • Jaw, neck, arm or back pain or tightness

  • Shortness of Breath

  • Nausea or vomiting

A woman can experience the symptoms above, but the ones below are also common and often dismissed.

Other symptoms a woman may feel..

  • Fatigue

  • Dizziness, light headedness or fainting

  • Sweating

  • Chest discomfort or burning like heartburn

  • Lower chest pain or pressure

What I think is important to note is that a woman is more likely to sit and have a cup of tea and wait for symptoms to pass before she thinks of seeking medical attention.

So please, remember if this is you, your sister, friend, mum, aunt, wife or any other woman in your life experiencing any of these symptoms, be safe and not sorry and get checked out.
